What are the Books I need to read for UPSC/SPSC mains Optional-Public Administration?

This is the most common question that a serious aspirant for this Examination will always have in their minds. So they will keep asking everyone, what to read and what not. But to clear this doubt, You must be sure that you want Public Administration as optional because you cannot change optional subject frequently for this Examination. So be ready and set your mind for Public Administration. To clear you doubt about why PA, you need to read my post which I will share you link in my next update.
There are some books and basic knowledge you should have before starting your preparation for this Subject.

To begin with, you must have read Indian Polity thoroughly( Laxmikanth's Indian Polity is a must to get an overview of Indian Polity).
  • Read Indian Polity (preferably the text written by Laxmikanth)
After having the knowledge about Indian Polity, Now you can start your preparation for the subject. Your seniors or friends or even many institutions might suggest you many books to read. But you can read them later after you have read IGNOU BA(Pub AD) Materials first. Once you have read IGNOU materials which are easily available on Internet for free. In my upcoming posts, I will be providing notes mostly based on IGNOU materials as well as other books which are available on Markets for you better understanding.
  • You must read IGNOU BA(Public Administration) materials without fail!

You might be asking, Why IGNOU materials? The answer is very simple:
  1. The words or sentences used in these materials are very easy and simple to understand, so one can easily read it and understand the subject very well without much effort.
  2. As the Materials provide most of the topics covered in the syllabus, so you will get the broad picture about the subject. Most importantly, you will get a picture about how deep into the subject matter you must read and know.
  3. Above all, these materials are based on University Standard or Govt recognized, which we can set as benchmark like NCERT texts.
You will find some 30-40 separate pdfs on internet which make up the subject. You can either take a printout or use as soft copies depending on your choice, but I would suggest to have a print out of them or buy these materials from market.  As I had told you in the previous post, on how to prepare Public Administration, UPSC is not looking for subject experts. So you need only those are necessary for the administration purposes and for this examination.

So, you have to prepare accordingly. But certain things are very much essential, and it is up-to you to take care of them, such as:
  1. You need to dedicate 3-4 hrs every day for this subject during your preparation apart from your General Studies.[As I have spoken earlier in previous post]
  2. Refer to these materials for your understanding only. You need to reproduce those take away during examination in your words.
  3. Be punctual and sincere about your studies. Don't overdo or do less, you must decide your optimal capability of study. You must stick onto it.
So what are you waiting for, start practicing and make sure you keep visiting on this blog for new updates. And don't forget to subscribe to my blog and my social media handles.
BE PUNCTUAL AND SINCERE!
