Though Civil Services or IAS/IPS, a legacy of colonial era, but this country, India is paying a lot of importance to these posts which have taken the centre stage in Governmental activities. The Role of Civil services ranges from developmental activities to policy making, policing activities to law order maintenance etc.
In order to recruit best Candidates in these services, Union Public Service Commission or State PSCs conducts examinations. These Examinations provide Public Administration as an Optional Subject during phase-II of this Examination(Mains).
UPSC, however is not looking for the best scholars in this subject Public Administration(PA) but individuals who are having a sound knowledge on this subject with some practical application of the subject matter. Therefore the Main Examination of this optional comprises of two Parts:1)Theory (Paper-I) and 2)Application(Paper-II). So one can easily understand that while appearing for this Examination, you should not only focus on the theory but its daily applications as well. In order to get a better understanding on how the subjects are organized in this examination, you can check syllabus of Public Administration(You can click on the link provided to get the syllabus).
To make the matter serious for the aspirants, UPSC provides only the syllabus of this examination but there is not text books or any sources of the subjects. There is no fixed question patterns, the questions keep changing each year. You can easily know what I am talking about by observing various previous years question papers(I will upload previous year questions later in this blog, so keep coming every day if you are serious about this Examination).
A serious and sincere study of this subject for about two-three months will make you thorough about the theoretical aspect of this subject but you need your intelligence to do better in the paper - II which demands current affairs and other social and political knowledge of the time.
